Last night, three new E-RTG cranes (Electrification – Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane) arrived to Luka Koper. These rubber tyred gantry cranes, manufactured by the Finnish company Konecranes, while the welding of supporting structure was performed by the company Radež d.d., Croatia, will serve handling of containers. The cranes were assembled in Split and transported by 90-metre long barge to Koper. Over the following two months, we expect another four cranes.

Each 142-tonne crane uses electricity as a power source hence it is more environment-friendly; it generates less noise and no direct emissions. With a total of 22 RTG cranes, the new will contribute to the productivity of the container terminal. The investments in new equipment and higher capacity machinery are part of a larger project of container terminal modernisation and the increase of container handling capacities, including also the extension of Pier I and additional storage facilities.

Intensive investments in the container facilities began last year with seabed dredging at the container terminal quayside and the increase of handling and storage capacities. By 2020, Luka Koper anticipates to invest 235 million euros just in the container terminal.
