Upon an invitation to Slovenia by Mr Blaž Kavčič, President of the National Council, the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of Canada’s Senate, also visited the Port of Koper as part of his three-day official visit to Slovenia. The main topic of discussions was the possibilities for co-operation between Luka Koper and the ports of Canada’s eastern seaboard. At his meeting with the port management, Mr Kinsella stated that the Canadian government has put a deal of effort into the establishment of an Atlantic logistics platform and is willing to invest several billion dollars into the project, adding that he felt positive about the Port of Koper, in particular due to its geostrategic location and quality service provision. Cargo safety is one of the key issues of the Atlantic Gateway project and in this regard Luka Koper serves as an example of good practice. “We are too distant to be competitors, but by all means we can be strategic partners,” asserted the Senate Speaker, whose visit to Koper opened the door to closer co-operation with Canadian ports.
