A team from Luka Koper and local forwarders, who are mainly involved in handling of fresh produce via the Slovenian port of Koper, has participated at the annual leading fair in fresh produce Fruitlogistica in Berlin, between February 7 – 9 2018. The focus during the fair was on meetings with clients and container shipping lines, crucial for ensuring short transit times, and discussions with various potential clients.
Port of Koper has been presented also on the booth of the EU founded project Fresh Food Corridors (FFC), in which are involved several partners from Slovenia and Israel, the ports of Venice and Marseille, while Port of Koper is the leading partner of the project. The aim of the FFC project is to develop and establish a new transport chain for perishable goods, from eastern Mediterranean to Central European markets.
It can be summarised that clients are satisfied with the service in fresh produce handling, provided by the whole Koper port community, including phytosanitary inspection and customs authorities. As regards expectations for the coming months, we expect substantial volumes from Egypt and Israel, as well as continuous flow of Polish apples for export. In relation with the container service connecting Nhava Sheva to Koper, with a transit time of only 15 days, we expect more time-sensitive cargo als from India, especially grapes.
