On 20th November 2014 we hosted a group of 150 Chinese businessmen and government officials. The meeting was a part of an extensive Chinese visit, looking for new business opportunities in Slovenia. The head of the delegation met with the member of the management board , Mr. Andraž Novak, who presented them all the opportunities and benefits of the North-Adriatic transport route as an alternative gateway for cargo flows from and into China. Traditionally, Chinese logistics operators are using mostly North European ports, while a cost and time saving route via Koper would be an effective alternative. In addition to the two existing direct container lines connecting Koper with Chinese ports every week, a third one is expected to be operative in early 2015, making Koper even more interesting. On yearly basis about 100,000 TEU (container units) from/to China are transported through port of Koper, while the total Chinese traffic via Koper was in 2013 around 900,000 tonnes of various cargo.
