The RENEWPORT project was approved for co-financing in December 2023 as part of the Interreg Euro-MED Program call for the period 2021-2027, with the specific objective 2.4: ” Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches”. It is a 33-month project that started in January 2024 and in which a total of 10 project partners from 8 EU countries participate: Italy, Slovenia, France, Spain, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro and Greece.
RENEWPORT aims to tackle the challenge of mitigating climate changes by exploiting renewable energy sources in Mediterranean ports, prioritizing the transition to clean energy. To achieve this goal, the RENEWPORT partnership is structured ensuring the geographical relevance of the proposal and the technical capacity of the consortium as a whole, which can significantly contribute to achieving the expected changes at the transnational level.
During the project, pilot actions and investment measures are going to be adopted in the field of sustainable development; in this context, activities will take place in Luka Koper to reduce emissions and obtain “green energy” by installing a solar power plant on the roof of the administrative building of the Container Terminal. Luka Koper, d.d. is also the leading partner of WPT3, where the objective is to prepare a regional action plan – based on individual action plans that will be prepared by all project partners. The final result will be a “Transnational tool to promote further cooperation in the transition to clean energy in the Mediterranean area, even after the end of the project”.
The European Fund for Regional Development co-finances project activities in the amount of 80%.
