The ADRIREC project was approved for co-financing in February 2024 under the call for the period 2021-2027 of the Interreg IPA ADRION Program, which addresses “Priority 3: Support for a carbon neutral and better-connected Adriatic-Ionian region“. It is a 36-month project that started in September 2024 and in which, in addition to the Italian leading partner, foresees the participation of 10 partners from 8 countries: Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

The general objective of the ADRIREC project is to support the sustainable development of ports in the Adriatic-Ionian region and to study the possibilities of replicating pilot solutions, through the development of sustainable ideas, also in other ports or terminals.

The budget of Luka Koper is 178,900 euros for activities that will take place from the 1st of September 2024 to the 31st of August 2027. In the initial phase, the possibility of effectively setting up solar power plants in the port area will be studied; the implementation phase will follow with the help of a pilot activity, in which the Port of Koper will install a solar power plant and charging stations for electric vehicles at the passenger terminal. In the final phase, the obtained results will be used as good practices for spreading solutions in other ports or terminals in the wider region.

The expected results and benefits for Luka Koper are:

  1. Produced analyses that will show what the realistic expectations of Luka Koper can be, for the utilization of solar energy, also in case it would be produced outside port’s area, and what challenges we can expect, at this regard, from a legal and administrative point of view;
  2. Co-financing of the costs for setting up a solar power plant and energy storage, as well as electric charging stations for vehicles in the port area, in the amount of 85 % of the sustained costs;
  3. Obtaining or exchange of information on similar solutions with other ports that will participate in the ADRIREC project, as well as the possibility of upgrading the existing electrification system in the port of Koper.

The European Fund for Regional Development co-finances project activities in the amount of 85 %.
