Elemed is a breakthrough maritime initiative that aims at the introduction of shore produced electricity in the Eastern Mediterranean marine transportation sector. Project aims at studying all technical, regulatory, safety and financial issues related to the development of a low-carbon, resource-efficient cold ironing infrastructure in ports along the Eastern Mediterranean Corridor. This project will signify the first critical step to electric bunkering and the zero-emission ship for short sea connections.
The action will determine the required investment based on assessing worldwide experience, case studies and recent technological development.
Three member states are involved with their respective ports: Cyprus (Port of Limassol), Greece (Port of Piraeus, Port of Kyllini) and Slovenia (Port of Koper – Luka Koper).
