Today in the Port of Koper we hosted an important business delagation from India which is in Slovenia these days as part of the first official visit of the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind in our county. The delegation is made up of representatives of the Indian Chamber of Commerce ASSOCHAM and Indian companies from variuos sectors including logistics.
The meeting focused on the set-up of a direct container shipping line between Koper and India, which would allow an increase in cargo throughput. The transport route to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe via Koper offers 2,000 nautical miles shorter connections than through northern European ports, which is of great interest for Indian business partners.
In 2018, 280,000 tonnes of goods were handled in Port of Koper for India, mostly containers and vehicles but there are futher potencials of business cooperation between our countries.
