In the Port of Koper, we carry out activities that are subject to regulatory requirements related to identified environmental aspects. All relevant regulatory requirements are managed by individual areas of expertise.
According to the European Directive SEVESO II, namely the Directive on the prevention of major accidents and the reduction of their consequences, the Port of Koper is identified as major hazard installation that requires an environmental permit to operate.
Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning – the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia issued an environmental permit for the entire port on the basis of the safety report. This document identifies as sources of hazard the Fruit Terminal (due to the use of refrigerants in the refrigeration technology), the Liquid Cargo Terminal and the Tanker Berth. Obtaining the environmental permit means that the plant has the technical and human resources in place to prevent and manage the risks.
